Nature | Culture | Crystal Beaches | Temples | Sunset | History

Nusa Penida is a beautiful island located southeast of Bali, Indonesia. It’s known for its stunning landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and diverse marine life.
Here’s a guide on what to see, know, and how to get there:

What to See:

  1. Kelingking Beach: Famous for its T-rex shaped cliff, it offers breathtaking views and a challenging hike down to the beach.
  2. The Crystal Bay: Fascinating white sandy beach, where visitor can do easily snorkeling and swimming
  3. Angel’s Billabong: A natural infinity pool that fills with seawater during high tide, offering a great spot for swimming.
  4. Broken Beach (Pasih Uug): Known for its unique rock formation and arch, it provides picturesque scenery
Crystal-bay Nusa Penida

CRYSTIAL-BAY

Crystal Bay is one of the most popular and accessible beaches on the island of Nusa Penida, Indonesia, located on the west coast. It is renowned for its calm, clear waters (which give it its name), beautiful white sand beach, and most famously, as a world-class snorkeling and diving spot to see Manta Rays and the rare Mola Mola (Sunfish).

The Beach Itself: Unlike many rocky coasts of Nusa Penida, Crystal Bay has a lovely, crescent-shaped white sand beach. It’s relatively protected, making the waters calmer than other parts of the island, which is perfect for swimming and relaxing.

The Scenery: The bay is framed by two headlands and features a small, picturesque island just offshore, which is the primary dive site. The surrounding cliffs and lush green hills create a stunning tropical backdrop.

Sunset Views: Facing west, Crystal Bay is one of the best places on Nusa Penida to watch a spectacular sunset.

Broken Beach

BROKEN BEACH

Broken Beach (Pantai Pasih Uug in Balinese) is a stunning natural arch formation and scenic coastal viewpoint located on the southwestern coast of Nusa Penida, Indonesia. It is not a beach you can go down to for swimming, but rather a breathtaking geological feature best admired from the cliff tops above.

The name “Broken Beach” comes from the large, perfectly circular archway that the ocean has carved through the limestone cliff over millennia. This creates the illusion of a “broken” ring of rock, with the sea water flowing in and out of the enclosed cove inside.
No Beach Access: Unlike Crystal Bay, you cannot go down to the sand or swim at Broken Beach. The cliffs are sheer and dangerous, and there is no access path. The experience is purely about the view from above.

WHAT TO KNOW:
It’s a Viewpoint: The beauty of Broken Beach is in observing and photographing this powerful natural wonder from the safe, designated pathways on the cliff tops.

Safety: Always stay on the marked paths. The cliff edges are unstable and can be extremely dangerous. Do not climb over barriers for a photo.

Angle's Billabong

ANGLESA BILLABONG

Angel’s Billabong is a stunning and unique natural rock formation on the southwestern coast of Nusa Penida, Indonesia. It is a natural infinity pool carved by centuries of ocean waves eroding the limestone cliffs.

The name comes from:

“Billabong”: An Australian term for a stagnant pool or lagoon that is cut off from the main flow of water during the dry season.

“Angel’s”: It’s said to be so beautiful and pristine that only angels would swim there.

What Makes It Special:

The Natural Infinity Pool: The main attraction is the series of crystal-clear, turquoise rock pools that sit right at the edge of the ocean. The outer edge of the largest pool drops off directly into the sea, creating a breathtaking “infinity pool” effect that blends seamlessly with the ocean horizon.

Geological Wonder: The pools are formed from smooth, white limestone rock, creating natural benches and channels that fill with fresh seawater during high tide. The water is often incredibly clear and calm.

Spectacular Views: The location offers dramatic views of the Indian Ocean and the rugged Nusa Penida coastline.

Proximity to Broken Beach: Angel’s Billabong is located immediately next to Broken Beach. In fact, the two sites are connected by a short, easy cliffside path. It is impossible to visit one without seeing the other, and they are almost always visited together on a “West Nusa Penida” tour.

Kelingking

KELINGKING

Kelingking Beach is a world-famous cliff formation and secluded beach located on the southwestern coast of Nusa Penida, an island southeast of Bali, Indonesia. It is arguably the most iconic and photographed landmark in Bali, renowned for its breathtaking views.

The name “Kelingking” translates to “pinky finger” in Indonesian. This comes from the shape of the cliff’s limestone rock formation, which, when viewed from the main viewpoint, strikingly resembles a T-Rex dinosaur or a pinky finger (depending on your perspective).

Kelingking Beach is a natural wonder and a must-see destination in Bali, primarily for its unparalleled cliffside views. It offers both an easy, iconic photo opportunity from the top and a challenging adventure for those who wish to hike down to its secluded shore.
